Musical Theater – Camp Life
The Sitka Fine Arts Camp is located on the historic Sheldon Jackson Campus in the picturesque coastal community of Sitka, Alaska. Dormitories, dining hall, gym, classrooms, and practice areas are all conveniently located on site. The campus is a short walk from downtown Sitka, and performances will be held in Sitka’s state of the art Performing Arts Center.
Meals are served buffet-style and are a time for campers, counselors, and faculty to come together. Vegetarian options are available, and there is an extensive salad bar. If you have dietary restrictions please note them on the Health History Form during registration, and our cooks will do their best to accommodate you.
Student performers and technicians will work for eleven days to produce a full length musical to be performed on the last two days of camp. Students attend daily master classes in auditioning, character analysis, choreography, singing, and more. Skills are put into action in a combination of rehearsals and technical shop time. Performance students will focus on acting, dancing, and singing while production students will produce sets, costumes, lighting, sound, and video.
Outside of class and rehearsal, campers can choose various recreation activities such as soccer, Frisbee, hiking, and trips to town.
The program will culminate with three performances of the musical in the state of the art, Sitka Performing Arts Center. This is great time for family and friends to visit!
